Welcome to Mojeum!

I’m the author, Lunah from Japan. I have stadied Japanese calligraphy(Shodo) since 8 years old. I have totally over 10 years experiences in Shodo, and a teacher licence of Shodo. I transmit the fascination with the beauty and depth of calligraphy at Mojeum.

Origin of the website’s name, “Mojeum”

The name “Mojeum” is a combination of two words, “Moji” and “Museum.” “Moji” means “characters” in Japanese, and “Museum” refers to a site where you can encounter art related to calligraphy and characters. The name “Mojeum” expresses a website where you can discover the beauty and art of calligraphy and characters.

Purpose

“Mojeum” is a free material site created to share the beauty of hand-drawn calligraphy with people around the world. “Mojeum” offers a wide range of materials including handwritten brush letter alphabets, Japanese kanji, hiragana, and katakana, all available for free download.

In addition to providing materials, “Mojeum” also introduces one of Japan’s representative arts, brush lettering (Shodo). This site covers everything from basic knowledge of shodo to the different types of brushes and inks used, as well as introducing famous shodo artists. I believe that this site is not only informative for those have experiences in shodo, but also for those who are intrested in Japan, its culture and history.

At “Mojeum,” I recognize the deep connection between Japan’s calligraphy and Chinese calligraphy and characters. As such, we also share information about Chinese calligraphy and characters in our blog. We hope that our site will encourage you to explore the world of calligraphy and to appreciate its unique beauty.
